30 Jan Bright Spot – The Salvation Army Carindale
Carindale Corps, Qld, is located on the south side of Brisbane in a high residential, suburban area.
On a normal week about 1,000 people visit the corps site.
They engage with: our childcare centre, family store, Mainly Music program, playgroup, kids’ church, SAGALA clubs, music worship groups, youth group, seniors bowls club, quilting group, discipleship classes and Bible study groups, Sunday morning community worship, messy church, young adults church, and youth church.
The Sunday morning worshipping community of about 250 people is multi-generational. It includes 30-40 residents from Moonyah Recovery Services. Other community worship opportunities include messy church, young adults church, youth church and women’s ministry.
Discipleship is a major priority, especially among the families of the childcare centre, the family store volunteers, the children’s ministries, and Moonyah clients. Thursday night discipleship classes allow senior soldiers to sit alongside new Christians to share their faith and study the Bible.
The vision of Carindale Corps is ‘to be a worshipping community, doing whatever it takes to bring people to Jesus Christ’. This is the guiding principle of all programs and new initiatives.
A bible verse that provides a foundation for my life and ministry is: ‘If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.’ John 15:5
A good verse for Carindale corps would be: ‘Go and make disciples, teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.’ Matthew 28:19,20
This is achieved not by talking people into the kingdom, but by loving them into the kingdom.
- What habits are you forming that are helping other people’s lives to be transformed by the power of Jesus Christ?
- How often do you meet with believers and non-believers for a meal or coffee for the purpose of discipleship?
Really quite simply that God will continue his miraculous work of grace, salvation and holiness, so that we continually witness people being saved and discipled.
David and Michele have been officers for 27 years and corps officers for 26 years. They love their family of three sons, two daughters-in-law and one grandson. Weekly family dinners and annual beach holidays are the first thing to go in the diary.
